fabric rings

On the weekend I attended a fantastic workshop run by BrisStyle on how to take good photos for online stores. The lovely Melanie from Kimino Reincarnate taught us how to use a few simple lighting and digital manipulation techniques to take great pics.

Low and behold, it worked a treat! I got home and excitedly set up my ironing board in soft lighting with a piece of white lace and two pieces of foam core and took these photos of my fabric rings …

I’m SO happy with how they’ve turned out! Check out my fabric ring range in my Aussie store at My Nostalgic Feeling or a selection in my new My Nostalgic Feeling store on etsy :)

Oh P.S. Melanie has also kindly uploaded some awesome links and photography tutorials on her Kimono Reincarnate blog here. YAY!

NEW artwork and mirror tricks

Meet my newest fabric infused artwork : ‘Undulating Flourishside’.

‘Undulating Flourishside’. acrylic, vintage fabric, metallic pen, tissue paper and gesso on recycled board. September 2010

This little puppy came together  in a three hour mixed media marathon on Monday afternoon. It was So nice to sit down and give myself the whole afternoon to create whatever I felt like. It makes me happy!

CAN YOU HELP? I’m planning to make this artwork into some fabric … so I held it up to a mirror to check out some of the repeat printing alternatives … which repeat pattern do you like best?

following fabric dreams (totally RAD)

Ok, so I’m pretty freaken excited! Here is my very first attempt at making a wedge necklace using my art printed on fabric.

passive fleurette collage1

The artwork is called ‘Passive Fleurette’ and it’s a mixed media artwork infused with fabric, papers, lace and paint.

For years and years I’ve been dreaming of making may artworks into fabrics. You might remember the post back in April when I spoke about My Dream of having my artworks printed onto fabrics and made into lounges etc (I’ve used the same artwork here).

So, my jewellery just another tentacle of my dream! The one I’ve created below is just a trial … I’ve just been laying around and will be getting an actual run of my artworks printed onto fabric in the coming months (squeal of excitement) … but I just couldn’t wait to show you!

passive fleurette front and back

I’ve backed my Passive Fleurette fabric with some complimentary coloured vintage cream and pink fabric so it’s reversible as well. Pretty cool huh?!

I’m really enjoying making the wedges reversible …so while I was at my sewing machine I made a few new wedges using my yummy vintage/ethically sourced fabric stash.

‘Cherry Turquoise Tint’         &       ‘Flowing Florals’.

They’re both available in my new ‘My Nostalgic Feeling’ Blue Caravan store, with my artwork fabric label hopefully coming out by the end of this year :)

a wearable art exhibition i’m in

Saturday night the Junkie Couture wearable art exhibition opened at Reverse Garbage. All items in the exhibition (and there were loads!) were made from a minimum of 75% recycled/salvaged materials.

A couple of my fellow BrisStyle peeps were there on the night … Sam (left) had her beautiful wooden Jettas Nest brooches (below) in the exhibition which sat right next door to my fabric wearable goodies.

There were dress-ups, bags made from records, jewellery, clothing, bags, shoes, and awesome headwear (< made by Rita Tika)  like this:

I even managed to drag hubby along too!

If you get a chance to pop in, or if you went to the opening night, I’d love to hear what your favourite items were! I think mine was the head piece and some awesome folded leather pieces near the entrance :)

live art gig and one-night solo shows

 ACA2

Last night Australian Chartered Accountants hosted a women's networking event in the CBD ... and I was invited to deck out the 32nd floor with my art, fabric jewellery and prints AND put on a live art show for the evening.

I LOVE the sculpture wall my artwork hung on.

Here’s a little action shot of me doing my thing live at the event … at this point I was using my favourite lace pattern to add some stencilling effects to the artwork.

I also had a lovely set up with all my art prints, more original artworks and fabric jewellery.

I worked on the piece throughout the evening from 5:30 until 8pm … and I surprised myself by completing the piece on the night! It’s always lovely when an artwork flows easily and effortlessly.

Here’s the finished piece:

Not sure what I’ll call it yet …

In other news, if you read Thursday’s post, you would’ve seen that I had another one-night exhibition at a sneak peek of a new designer store in Paddington, Queensland. On the evening the name of the store was unveiled …

we live like this

‘We Live Like This’. Isn’t it a great name?!

I’ll have more exhibition news coming up by the week’s end, as I’m taking part in a wearable art exhibition called ‘Junkie Couture’ in West End, Brisbane @ Reverse Garbage.

JUNKIE COUTURE

A couple of my other creative peeps from BrisStyle will have their wearable art pieces on show too that evening … check out the recent blog sneak peeks of Jetta’s Nest, Kellie Christie and Yours Truly here

handbag revamp

Yesterday I finished these little upcycled bags for the upcoming Junkie Couture exhibition at Reverse Garbage. Yay!

bag2

bag2_collage

 bag1

I’m really happy with how they turned out although they took me ages to make … feeding a fully formed bag into a sewing machine to embellish is super fiddly!

I like that they now have a bit of an ‘asiatic’ feel about them.

The top bag was originally a plain cream bag given to me by a friend who thought I could ‘do something creative with it’. The bottom bag was a blue stripy over-the-shoulder-strap-kinda-bag my Mum found for me.

If you wanna see these puppies in the flesh, you can find out more about the JUNKIE COUTURE wearable art exhibition here

original art gigs

Hello my friends! This week I’m writing from my childhood home on the Redcliffe Peninsula in Queensland. Ma and Pa kettle are soaking up the sunshine in Vanuatu for the week, so I’m house sitting for them and looking after my lovely old blind and deaf puppy dog Jakeyboy.

So, other than enjoying a step back in time, this week I’ve been installing my art in a few new ‘homes’.

My very favourite hand-made store in Brisbane NOOK now has two of my original mixed media artworks in store. YAY!

the tree 4 x 4 its bees business_sm

The one on the top left is called ‘The Tree Told Me So’ … and it’s an artwork I created after an inspiring walk along the beach front and sitting under a seaside tree.

The artwork on the top right is called ‘It’s Bees Business’, and it’s a painted drawing of a succulent in my little townhouse garden surrounded by buzzing bees. The black and white central area is collaged with hand drawn paper I designed and printed.

Next in my arty installation news …

september 2010 my art in mekalies store

Tonight my original fabric infused artworks will feature at a new independent fashion store celebrating their 'teaser launch' in Paddington!
It has been all been very secret squirrel up until today, with the shop unveiling their (awesome) name, location and all Australian designer products this evening.
Freaking YAY!

The artworks showcased as part of the launch are ‘Aquatic Soul Dance’, inspired by feelings, emotions and budding experiences in my life …

‘And Saturn Gently Returns’, an artwork which began as a vision in my mind and unfolded organically …

…and ‘Blue Musing’, which celebrates a return to my truth and creative joy.

All of these artworks are available as prints and originals on my website and online store at www.chrissyforemanc.com

fabric jewellery bits n pieces

sept 2010 006_sm

Been a busy little bee making fabric jewellery stuff. Next week I’ve been asked to fill a women’s pamper function with my art and fabric jewellery so my trusty ol’ PFAFF sewing machine has done some kilometres over the last couple of weeks!

I’ve made a new batch of ‘Little Preppies’ using this lush, rare retro fabric below.

little preppies_sept_sm

. Each  has been edged with contrasting coloured cotton, stiffened with vinyl, backed with pre-loved fabric and a clasp and set-off with a unique vintage button. Yay! I love them :)

I’ve probably got enough fabric to make 30 individual preppies … after that they’ll never exist again! I must remember to keep one for myself :)

I’ve also been working on more moon-wedge necklaces and have a bunch of newbies in my website store. I’m really happy with the versatility of my design and I’ve been getting loads of awesome feedback about them, even when I’m just walking about town!

moon necklace_packaging

It’s taken me a while to come up with some fun, funky, eco-friendly packaging for them, and I’ve settled on making little individual handbags for each necklace. Lots of trial and error went into the design and I’m stoked with how they’ve turned out (although the photo isn’t so crash hot ~ sorry!).

I wanted something that could look great hanging on display as well as protecting the fabric so the moon wedges stay fresh and crisp looking.
